Christians need to understand the true nature of the warfare going on today in the heavenlies, on the earth and in their hearts. This classic will open your eyes and heart to see beyond the mundane teachings you have become accustomed to. It will also expose the dangers of today’s “counterfeit revival.” Although written nearly a hundred years ago, this is a timely book for today’s church.

Disclaimer
The Scripture is clear, women are not to have authority over men in the church and especially in the constitutional order of the home! This also carries over completely in the affairs of men. Knowing this, the devil's program of changing God's order, I add this disclaimer: That our people will be as stiff-necked, stubborn, dogged, tenacious, rigid, steadfast, bull-headed, staunch, steady, resolute, immovable and reactionary as possible. We will not be changed when it comes to the teaching of God's Word or it's practicality! Only when the Lord comes back.
In fact, and according to the doctrine of our Bible, women are only specifically authorized to teach younger women, and even then, they are instructed as to exactly what they are to teach:
Titus 2:3-5
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
There is simply no New Testament authority for a woman to openly or aggressively present herself as a teacher of religious doctrine to men. There are now women preachers, pastors (and worse yet) missionaries in almost every outpost of Christendom. The fact that the Bible and 1900 years of theological consensus disallow women from these Church Offices is now being ignored along with a host of other once universally acknowledged truths. This is the age of Apostasy, and even the Divinely assigned distinctions concerning the appearance, the social and family roles, and the personalities of men and women are being despised and dismantled on every front. In the light of these developments, we felt it necessary to clearly make this disclaimer.
HOW THEN, CAN I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO YOU?
I'm NOT ready to say that women are prohibited from making ANY contribution to the public discussion of our Faith. The New Testament evidence for women teaching religion to men is faint... ...but in this, there may be an apparent exception implied under certain circumstances.
Acts 18:26 And he [Apollos] began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
I note that Priscilla did this "expounding" in the company of her husband. There is no reason from the text above to believe that Priscilla sat silently while Aqulia did all the talking. "They took" (and presumably) "[they] expounded."
I see nothing in our Bible that prohibits a man from privately soliciting a woman's opinion on any matter, as evidenced by the role granted to Deborah the prophetess as a judge in Israel. As judge in Israel, Deborah had to judge according to the Law of Moses.
I acknowledge women prophets as part of the spiritual economy of the New Testament Church. But prophecy is not the same thing as standing on a stage and rambling on with arguments and opinions.
I would be loathe to disqualify War On The Saints EVEN IF it was proven that Mrs. Penn-Lewis was OUT OF ORDER in presenting it, because we STILL THINK IT IS the best book about how to recognize and escape the great dangers in the modern trend to replace faith with spiritual immediacy.
Because War On The Saints is a book, and because the author is no longer with us, it cannot be said that she is in any position to usurp authority over any man. The book is simply available for any man or woman who cares to solicit the author's opinion on the matter she addresses. As with any other post-canonical book, the reader has complete freedom to accept the Truth they witness to and reject or ignore anything doubtful.
CONCLUSION
I presently see and acknowledge a distinction between a writing by a woman that may be taken or left at one's leisure, and a woman who presents herself personally to men in a demanding and confrontive way while claiming to be a teacher of religion.
I also see a difference between a woman who seeks a man's approval on her teaching before presenting it, and those women who presume to need no such "male clearance". History has it that Evan roberts, the well known evangelist, "signed on" to War On The Saints and that it had his approval. I prefer to believe that Evan Roberts at least proof read the text, and I hopefully believe that he contributed to it's construction. Just HOW MUCH Evan Roberts had to do with composing War On The Saints is not known.
Any healthy soul that is free from the errors and problems described in War On The Saints will have no need to read this book. But to those who are doubtful about some of the "spiritual things" they have experienced, still we recommend it. There are doubtful manifestations (laughing, shaking, falling, paralysis, barking, moaning, screaming, ungracious babblings etc. and visions and prophecies) happening in many churches in these days. I judge much of this supernatural hysteria to be the work of religious demons. Jessie Penn-Lewis exposes the errors that allow for such things to be accepted as the work of the Holy Ghost more clearly than any other writer we are aware of.
If it is indeed permissible for a woman to contribute to the public discussion of our Faith, Jesse Penn-Lewis has made an invaluable and prophetically significant contribution, in our opinion. We as a church express our concerns, hope to do right, and wait for the Holy Ghost to make clear to us what we do not understand. Pastor Del Wray

War On The Saints
is an extremely detailed discussion of the daily realities of our life: and how those realities indicate our level of subjection to evil spirits and heretical doctrines. It pries into every area of our inner-lives; calling us to give account to ourselves about our dreams, our social habits, our recurring thoughts, our persistent fears, the state of our health, the things that provoke us to anger, and etc.
This is the only book I ever read that I approve and recommend, while at the same time, I always approach it fearfully: for every time I read this book, I am forced to account for something that is going on in my life that frightens me. She makes no accusations, nor does she damn anyone for having these problems; but does hold the reader 100% accountable for every breach of peace or holiness in their life. EXAMPLE: if you have an evil dream, it's because you yet cherish some thoughts and considerations in your heart, upon which the evil dream is built. The demons play to your prejudices, and appeal to your own judgments, in order to foist upon you something you would finally reject, by appealing to the roots of those things, that you haven't yet rejected. You may not be willing, FINALLY, to commit adultery; but you yet secretly cherish a little "looking to lust;" maybe just a tiny little bit. [Note from the Editor: Mrs. Lewis calls these concessions "Ground"] The demons fasten on that concession to sin, and starting there with that which you WILL allow, they build a scenario which leads ever onward to the main sin. Upon being confronted in the dream with the main sin, you revolt (hopefully), and wake up: but the little root from which the appeal was made is still with you, so at another time, you have a somewhat similar dream, which while taking a somewhat different path, is still leading to the main sin. You revolt, and wake up; but still haven't renounced and rejected the little teeny sin in that area that you allow. So you have another dream sometime, with a different scenario......and here we go again.
Mrs. Penn-Lewis has it that you are both victim and responsible for every evil intrusion in your thought life, and she turns over every rock in your psyche, and exposes all the little vermin that we all try so hard to ignore. She posits that clinging with the mind and confessing with the tongue to the particular verities of the Word of God is our Chief weapon of defense against these influences, and that a lack of escape from the problems she describes is the chief symptom of embracing false doctrine. Therefore, unlike most others who address these things, she does not leave you with ONLY "Appealing to God" to deliver you from said problems, but has it that God has already provided the means of relief in The Word; and that those who, thinking to "skip" past this, and demand that God prove Himself faithful by a fiat of deliverance, are only purchasing despair; since for God to ignore your ignoring of His Word, is tantamount to denying His own righteousness and faithfulness. Ergo: hungry child says: "Dad, I'm hungry." Dad says, "There's a bag of fried chicken in the kitchen, go eat that." Child responds, "Dad, I'm very hungry." Dad repeats his instructions. Child now says, "Dad, I'm so hungry, don't you love me?" The next answer is either silence or rebuke.

What is the great apostasy that is mentioned in the Bible all about? Some people believe it will be a blast of pure evil in the latter days that will overwhelm the earth. But it's more subtle than that. People laugh at the image of a red horned Satan wielding a pitchfork as naive and unsophisticated yet they welcome his hip minions with their perfect smiles, perfect wives, perfect families and perfect lives. Of course, underneath all that outer worldly perfection is where the rot is. I can hear some people saying "I'll be able to see the great apostasy coming a mile away!" except that it's been here and growing for millennia and they still haven't gotten a good whiff of it yet. Read this book and see just how far gone we are.
(Unbelievers today in liberal and former Fundamentalist colleges and seminaries ridicule the King James Greek (Textus Receptus) because they deceitfully claim that it is based on the Greek Text of Erasmus who was a Catholic priest. Either they are too ignorant or too dishonest to tell the truth. To repeat, Erasmus published five editions of his Greek Text. Robert Stephanus published a slightly revised edition of the Erasmus Greek Text in 1551. Theodore Beza published several editions of that Greek Text and his 5th edition of 1598 became the basis of the King James New Testament. Actually it was the Erasmus, Stephanus, Beza Greek Text, which later became known as the Textus Receptus (Latin for Received Text) that the King James Translators used.)
From the beginning, a ferocious battle has raged between God and Satan over the Bible. Satan knows that if he can get us to doubt the Bible we actually doubt our Lord Jesus Christ. No one, absolutely no one, can believe in Jesus and doubt the Bible! If we doubt the Bible, we actually doubt Jesus, because without an infallible Bible, we don't have an infallible Saviour! This is why Satan has worked tirelessly to get men to destroy it, to corrupt it, and to disobey it. And his diabolical efforts have been greater in the 20th Century than all other centuries combined.
THE AUTHOR OF THIS NEXT BOOK IS NOT A BAPTIST!
He also lies about having the originals, when no one has seen the originals or even has a copy. He uses the King James Version but does not believe it is inerrant or infallible. A man captive to his own learning. The book is excellent in its content and brings across it's message. His delivery and usage of King James verse notations are superb. Please read with discernment, its still worth the read:

Foxe's Book of Martyrs Click to read On-Line

by John Foxe
John Foxe’s classic, Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, is an inspiring legacy of the Church’s witness and testimony. It is “the testimony of Jesus” wherein John the Apostle “saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held . . . and they cried with a loud voice, saying, ‘How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?’ Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed” (Revelation 6:9-10); therefore, it records the blood of the martyrs of Jesus and speaks to the present and ultimately, to that future day of tribulation and glory!
The English word “martyr” comes from the Greek root marturia which is translated “testimony” throughout the book of Revelation, as well as in other Scripture. John 19:35 has an altogether intensified connotation: “And he (John) who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.”
Foxe’s vivid accounting will astound and challenge every ardent Christian to persevere in testing and tribulation, because “the love of Christ” has constrained them to make that ultimate sacrifice for Him Who gave His all for them. “Ye are my witnesses” – yes, MARTYRS! That’s the testimony of the Church throughout the ages and it is altogether true today, not just up to the early 1800s of Foxe’s history. You will never forget the passion and message of this text—and neither shall He Who “having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar . . . He was given MUCH INCENSE, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne . . . and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand” (Revelation 8:3-4).

The Coming Prince Click to read On-Line
Introduction:
by Doug Krieger
The work of Sir Robert Anderson represents the high water mark of Nineteenth Century eschatology. His exegesis and commitment to copious detail, is unique and refreshing. Although written in the "elaborate style" of most Nineteenth Century writers, its prophetical intensity more than compensates, as it maintains the interest of the reader.
Sir Anderson's life (1841- 1918) encompassed the Victorian Era and the great eschatological awareness sweeping the English-speaking world. A time of empire, colonialism and Biblical discovery concerning the rise of that final end-times' "Revived Roman Empire" and of THE COMING PRINCE, the Antichrist. For it will be this prince who shall be that vile manifestation and ultimate Abomination of Desolation spoken of by Jesus, who shall, as the YOUNGER HORN, be the persecutor of both Jew and "Tribulation Saint." Daniel's revelation of the "Messiah the Prince" is in counter distinction to "The Coming Prince" - - FOR ONE IS THE CHRIST, AND THE LATTER IS THE ANTICHRIST!
Daniel's passages are elaborately detailed; especially, the SEVENTY WEEKS, and the incredible details of the actual DECREE TO REBUILD THE CITY OF JERUSALEM under Artaxerxes until Messiah's triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The chronological precision is astounding and puts to shame the faulty calculations from "Haley's Bible Handbook" and other historical interpreters of eschatology. They who deny the final Seventieth Week is yet to come, simply REFUSE to configure the pristine detail that this former Chief of Scotland Yard has determined.
Indeed, Sir Anderson, knighted by Queen Victoria for his professionalism in intelligence gathering and discovery (i.e., perhaps the "original" CSI-Crime Scene Investigator), "investigates" the Scripture and defends against the higher criticism of his day with such passion, that if a trial were held, I can assure you, Sir Anderson would win the case hands down! Could it possibly be that Sir Anderson IS the fictional character of Sherlock Holms? Some have so speculated.
But one thing is for certain: There is no fictional character to come . . . Sir Anderson makes his case for that final Roman Prince whose original legions "destroyed the city and the sanctuary" in 70 A.D. but who will this time IN PERSON come to establish a PEACE TREATY or DEFENSE PACT (not THE Covenant as some ill-informed so contrive) with Israel in the latter days, so commencing the infamous final 70th Week of Daniel. Further, as Anderson's investigation continues, this "Coming Prince" shall suspend his "agreement with the many" in "the midst of the week" and so shall the final 3 1/2 years of the GREAT TRIBULATION ensue.
You'll marvel at Sir Anderson's tone regarding a future rebirth of prophetical Israel. Friend, here is the very essence of British eschatological anticipation of THE REGATHERING OF THE EXILES to their ancient homeland . . . the precursor to the Second Coming, couched in terminology so anticipatory of May, 1948 (Israel’s Nationhood) that it sweeps your breath away and causes you to stand before your Messiah, fully assured, that He
Who keeps covenant, shall utterly keep all those committed to His eternal trust!
Persistence, my lad . . . that's what's needed as you journey with this "Prophetical Sherlock" while he pursues the truth, gathers his evidence and, at last, amasses an ironclad case and ultimate conviction. Read it like a novel and you will treasure Sir Anderson's insights the rest of your life- - all skeptics to the back of the room, please! Today, the skeptics and scoffers proliferate, but, Alas!, the Almighty has His "Andersons" even in high places to confirm what is truth in the midst of apostasy and rampant lies on every side. May the Lord stir His people in this final hour prior to the greatest CSI ever! Let all those who distain the specificity of such Biblical investigation be put to shame for their superficial handling of the Word of God! Now . . . go to . . . "let God be true but every man a liar!" (Romans 3:4)
